YBK advocates Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja (PSBK) as a place for both artists and non-artists to explore art capacities within the self - to add meaning to our lives.
PSBK’s pioneering approach to art and education is unique within the Indonesian arts community, believing that the most effective way to foster a deeper appreciation for the arts is to emphasize ‘understanding’ them through active-learning.
PSBK engages communities in art by creating and presenting art capacities through performance and creative practice as tools to develop the imagination and creative learning capacities of individuals; broaden their cultural perspectives; and enhance their self-knowledge. These values contribute to an ability to interpret the arts and utilize art capacities in all fields, as well as an ability to empathize with the differences of ‘the other’ – both elements that PSBK feel contribute to the full value of being ‘human’.

Jagongan Wagen Performance Presentation Series
What began as a performance platform for artists of all performing arts discipline to show their work at PSBK, Jagongan Wagen is now a platform for young artists to learn, collaborate, create and present own artistic vigor through performance practice. YBK invites young individual artists together, to undergo an intensive development process that leads to create and present individual and collective art capacities. The outcome is then presented to the public in Jagongan Wagen.
Presented monthly and free to the public, the Jagongan Wagen presentation platform brings arts and non-arts community to come together and participate in contributing to the art life at PSBK, by appreciating the art processes, art place, art practitioners, and the art work. “To gather regularly in order to share and exchange” is the notion and spirit of the program title Jagongan Wagen.
Among Seni Participatory arts-based workshops for Artists and Non-Artists
The arts-based workshops explore and utilize the creative source of art as an educational resource for artists and non-artists at PSBK.
YBK works with teams of local artists to develop and facilitate a unique didactic model - inclusive of processes artists undergo that invites them to develop own self-reflection, self-analysis, and re-discover own artistic practice more deeply.
The workshops accommodate direct interaction between artists and non-artists that foster understanding, exchange, and individual creativity - advocating art as being accessible to all. Through a deeper connection with the arts and participation in art, each individual are able to enhance the capacity to explore, to actualize, to express, and to appreciate.
Anjangsana Interactive performance presentation for School Communities
The Anjangsana program finds innovative ways to create arts-based learning processes for targeted student groups (elementary to high school), stimulating these groups to think, feel, imagine, explore, discover and reflect.
The key activity of the Anjangsana program is the development and presentation of interactive education & arts-based activities and performance presentations along these principals.
Each presentation is commissioned by PSBK, and created especially by local artists for a targeted student audience. These presentations reflect specific learning objectives that are relevant to the student audience.
