Performance Presentation (Jagongan Wagen) Jagongan Wagen offers quality traditional and experimental performances,
both international and local. Offered monthly, these performances are free
to the public and serve as a conventional vehicle within an intimate platform
that engages wide audiences. YBK encourages dialogue that communicates the
concept and process of the work presented through interviews with the artist(s)
before the performance. YBK provides artists with a performance space and
other facilities, technical, and promotional support.
Creative Dialogue and Exchange (Muara)
“Muara” in Indonesian means the meeting place of a river and the
ocean. This program brings artists together (national and international) to
facilitate dialogue and exchange for creative development. By focusing on
artistic ‘processes’ rather than product, YBK aims to stimulate
skills that will influence artists to engage more in critical analysis and
reflection in their practices.
Community Engagement with the Arts (Among
Sedulur)
YBK brings together artists with members of the general community of Yogyakarta
to engage people with the arts by utilizing the tools of performance and arts
practice as educational resources. We view our efforts to involve various
communities in arts programs as ways to increase and enhance their cultural
participation, creativity, communication and learning.
The two formats are:
• Outreach (Anjangsana) An outreach program involving the presentation of interactive, educational
performances designed to communicate with specific audiences. Each performance
will specially cater for the targeted audience, for example reflecting function,
context, artistic skill, and history of the art form, and addressing relevant
socio-cultural issues.
• Community Participation (Among Seni) Participatory arts activities/projects that stimulate the creativity
of community members through active learning. Artists will facilitate workshops
of creative activities, including cooperative games that enhance the communication
and problem-solving skills of participants, and promote team work and community
building. The activities will also foster a dialogue between the artists and
participants from the community, developing skills to process and utilize
the artistic medium(s) to address and express issues and interests relevant
to participants.
