Yayasan Bagong Kussudiardja (YBK) is a not-for-profit organization established to advocate Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja as a place for ‘art life’ to grow, thrive, and make a contribution to human life.

Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja (PSBK), is a meeting place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, for the arts and the wider community to learn.

PSBK under the direction of YBK, cultivates active learning processes in, with, and from art - for both artists and the general public, that inspire, stimulate creative dialogue, and educates artists and community members to think, feel, and create.

Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja extends the inspired pioneering vision of the renowned Yogyakarta artist and cultural activist, Mr. Bagong Kussudiardja (1928-2004), who was the founder of the complex. The late dance maestro believed that art contributes to the development of ideas and ideals and the values and processes that add meaning to life.  “I always had the desire to plant the feeling of responsibility to those who study at the Padepokan, so that they feel the need to serve society and humanity on behalf of the arts or mediated by the arts.  That’s the aim of the Padepokan. Therefore, it is not a place to form artists.”

Since its launch in May 2007, under the direction of YBK, Padepokan Seni Bagong Kussudiardja has established itself as a unique space for inspiring creativity and exploring the relevancy of the arts for all.

PSBK actively engages communities in art.  PSBK cultivate learning processes through and about the arts by facilitating learning processes to create and present art capacities through works of artists, facilitating their professional development and devising programs that increase community engagements in art.
